Today has been absolutely amazing! We had an early start (5.30am), and did not even have time for breakfast before we were whisked away in an open backed van.
Upon arrival, we saw elephants straight away!
We had a talk about elephants before preparing some food for them, cutting up watermelon with a cleaver and tearing bananas off of stalks.
We then had the opportunity to feed the elephants, and have photos with them.
After this, we changed into our swimming cossies and took to the mud bath!
Followed by a dip in the ‘swimming pool’.
We then showered and enjoyed a free lunch. The sanctuary provided everyone with a free t-shirt, which are actually very nice and comfy!
After lunch there was a huge thunderstorm. The workers from the sanctuary were using wooden umbrellas so as to avoid using metal in the lightning. We had to run through the rain in order to get back in our van and return to the hotel.
After relaxing for a while, we went for a walk along the beach and bought a coconut to share. It was absolutely delicious. We attempted to crack the coconut open in order to eat the inside by tearing it and throwing it against a tree. Neither of these methods were successful and the coconut filled with sand.
Walking along the beach we saw loads of tiny crabs burrowing into the sand.
We strolled up the beach, admiring the view and then decided to get a full body oil massage (in which they still climbed onto the bed with us!)
We then went for a meal, the worst so far in my opinion! I ordered rice noodles but was served some really thick, slimy ones which completely ruined my appetite even when they brought me the correct ones. The springs rolls were incredible though!
Anyway, it’s been a very long day! We have no plans for tomorrow as of yet, but potentially going to visit Big Buddha, who we can see from our balcony!
